Alpine Home FAQs

This Alpine log home is an exquisitely designed space with a multitude of features that will make your log cabin dreams come true!

The Carriage Shed works closely with Cozy Cabins, and we will be happy to design log cabin modular homes that meet your desires for both a weekend getaway and a full-time residence.
Our offering of prefab cabins can be customized to suit your unique preferences and needs.

This FAQ section may answer some of your questions, but you may have more.

Ask us about your certified log home cabin’s design, construction, and setup. Each cabin is crafted carefully, and your questions will improve the result.

Can a floor plan be modified?

Of course!

The Carriage Shed seldom builds two cabins alike. We have designed many floor plans and look forward to discussing floor plan modifications with you.

When we have created a floor plan for your specific desires we can then provide full-package pricing. If you have looked over the floor plans we have on our website and want to discuss modifying a floor plan then we will be happy to create a unique layout you will love.

We can work with you even if you have a simple hand sketch. We will bring your sketch to life! We can take your sketch and draw up a detailed floor plan to scale and price it for you.

Can I make modifications to the exterior style?

Like the interior layout, many exterior elements are also customizable.

Larger/additional porches, bump-out rooms, larger windows, and more are possible. If you don’t see what you want, just ask.

We enjoy talking with customers as your ideas may create even more ideas to make the result the best it can be.

How much maintenance do log cabins require?

Just like any log home, the exterior of our cabins requires some maintenance.

A stain is applied to the outside of your new cabin during construction. It is a semi-transparent stain to allow the beautiful natural-pine look to show through. Over time, the sun will slowly break down this exterior stain, and a new treatment must be applied. This periodical treatment is needed at approximately 5-year intervals, varying slightly depending on whether or not the cabin is exposed to direct sunlight.

See our Cabin Maintenance page for more details.

Our interiors are a different story. There is virtually no maintenance for the knotty pine interiors or finished flooring.

What is the cabin re-staning process?

Re-staining the exterior of your cabin is fairly simple, and most of our customers do it themselves.

If the surface is mildew-free, you can simply wash the exterior with a pressure washer. If you see any signs of mildew, you will also want to wash those areas with a bleach mixture or some type of mildew destroyer.

Then, let the walls dry for a day and re-stain it. The stain can be applied with a large brush or sprayed onto the wall and back-brush to eliminate runs & drips.

For more information, see our Cabin Maintenance page.

Who is in charge of checking zoning regulations, getting permits, and putting in a foundation?

Though The Carriage Shed does supply a foundation plan and structural prints, the customer is responsible for all site work and foundation needs before the building can be delivered. They are also responsible for any post set up landscaping or finished grading. We suggest contacting your local town office for information regarding permits and zoning regulations.
